At 19, I moved from Moldova to Denmark with only €100 and worked 3-4 jobs. Today I help expats navigate Danish taxes with clarity and strategy.
I’ve been wanting to add a blog section here for ages… and finally found someone tech-savvy enough to make it happen. So here we are.
Since it’s my first article, let me start with a little personal story about me.
I’m Irina, 31, born and raised in Moldova. At 19, I made the bold (and maybe slightly crazy) decision to move from Moldova to Denmark with just 100 EUR in my pocket and 1 connection here. People often ask me “Why Denmark?” Well… as a Kyokushin Karate champion at that time, I wanted a country where I could keep training with a strong team and also one that offered higher education without tuition fees. Denmark ticked both boxes.
The first year wasn’t easy. I worked 3-4 jobs, learned Danish, and tried to make sense of these changes. I stayed determined and eventually completed a Bachelor’s in Innovation & Entrepreneurship. That education inspired me to start my own Accounting and Tax advisory company. Fast forward 12 years: I’ve built IDconsult ApS, bought 3 properties along the way, and somehow managed to call Denmark not just the place I live, but home.
The funny part is that the idea for IDconsult came while sitting at the table with my best friend. Another friend called me in panic about her annual tax return – something about “rubriks” that made no sense. I sat with her for an hour explaining everything. When my best friend asked:
– “Are you going to take money for this?”
I said: “No, she’s my friend.”
She said: “Okay, but there might be others willing to pay. Why not start a business?”
Three hours later, half as a joke, I opened a hobby business on virk.dk for private tax consultancy. And well… that “joke” became my career.
Today, I get to help entrepreneurs, expats, and small business owners navigate the Danish tax system and support them with accounting services.
Outside of work, I travel. A lot. So far, 52 countries and counting. From every corner of the world, I ask people the same thing: How do you manage your money? I engage in conversations from saving strategies to scarcity mindsets – something that always fascinated me.
I’m deeply grateful for everything Denmark has given me these past 12 years: education, opportunities, and a network of incredible people. And I’m excited to share more stories, tax tips, and reflections here on this blog.
So, stay posted, will soon post again new stories and the kind of “jokes” that turn into life-changing businesses.
Cheers,
Irina
